Derek Jeter- The Life You Imagine

“If you don’t believe in yourself, why should anyone else believe in you? We can be our own best friends or our own worst enemies. I have always vowed to be my own best friend by exhibiting a positive attitude.” (pg. 9)

The reason I chose this quote is because this book is practically all about how to achieve your goals in life.  Derek Jeter wrote this book about how the goals you set should help you become a strong individual and how believing in yourself is very key in having a successful life.  Derek Jeter always believed in himself, and he became one of the best shortstops to ever play the game of baseball.

The first half of the book is basically about how Derek Jeter grew up dreaming to play baseball for the New York Yankees and it finally happened.  Derek Jeter always told his parents that he was going to become a part of the organization, and with lots of determination and a little luck, he was able to make it.  A little farther ahead in the book is more of the tips Derek Jeter shares to the reader, but a couple tips were shared before the second half of the book.  The first tip was setting your goals high and finding the right role models.  Derek Jeter set his goal very high by saying he would love to play for the New York Yankees, and it happened.  He had very good role models to watch, which made it a lot easier for him to realize what he needed to do.  The second one was be serious, but you also still have to have fun.  This hits hard at home, because there are some sports I play that are fun, and there are some sports that was just straight serious and it took out all the fun.  I don’t want to have to go through that again.

This book so far has been really good.  I really like how it shows tips and helps out with our goals and trying to figure them out.  I wish I would have started reading this book earlier, because it is very informative.  Reading Derek Jeter’s past and hearing all his stories on how determined he was for reaching his goal is crazy to even think about.  He put so much time and effort into becoming what he wanted to be.  I think every young boy has a dream to become a professional athlete (I know I did), but most of us won’t become one.  Derek Jeter didn’t let people tell him he couldn’t do it; he went out and proved them wrong.  I’m really excited to read the rest of this book to see what other tips he has to share!
